Where your dictation is processed

Paraspeech can transcribe locally on supported Apple Silicon Macs after model setup. Speech recognition and rewriting have separate settings. Cloud speech sends audio to a provider; cloud rewriting sends text. Eligible dictation can temporarily switch to cloud processing online when a local model is unavailable.

Wispr processes dictation in the cloud. Its model-improvement control, formerly called Privacy Mode, determines whether content can be used to improve Wispr's models. Dictation Cloud Storage is a separate control: opting out of training does not automatically turn off storage. Wispr also says its third-party AI providers cannot use your content for model training, regardless of this setting. Local history is separate from both controls. See Wispr's data controls below.

Choosing a plan

Paraspeech subscriptions include cloud processing and supported local modes. Lifetime covers eligible local/on-device models only, so it does not provide the cloud-backed models Intel Macs need. Wispr has free and paid options with different usage allowances and team controls. Compare the current plans using Paraspeech's pricing page and Wispr's plan documentation below. Paraspeech Lifetime includes twelve months of updates and continued use of the last covered version; further updates may require a new purchase.

When Paraspeech is not the right fit

  • You need Windows or Android support.
  • You need offline dictation on an Intel Mac.
  • Your team requires centrally managed access or specific compliance documentation before adoption.
  • You prefer Wispr's text cleanup, style controls or other writing features after trying them.

When to consider Paraspeech instead

  • You need supported local dictation on an Apple Silicon Mac after downloading the models.
  • You want a lifetime plan for eligible local/on-device models.
  • You also want an app for iPad.

Try your everyday writing

  1. 1

Try a short email in the app where you normally write it.

  2. 2

Include names and terms you use often, then check how much editing the result needs.

  3. 3

Choose the workflow you prefer. One sample does not establish which app is generally more accurate.

FAQs

Is Paraspeech a Wispr Flow alternative?
Yes, if your use case is Mac-first dictation. It is not a broad platform replacement for Wispr Flow because Paraspeech does not target Windows or Android workflows.
Does Wispr Flow work offline?
Wispr's help documentation lists an internet connection as a requirement. Re-check Wispr's current docs before purchase because competitor product details can change.
Does Privacy Mode mean Wispr works locally?
No. Wispr processes dictation in the cloud. The setting formerly called Privacy Mode controls model improvement; cloud storage is a separate setting. Turning off model improvement does not by itself turn off storage.
Does a Paraspeech lifetime plan include cloud processing?
No. Lifetime covers eligible local/on-device models. Cloud-backed models require a subscription, including the models used on Intel Macs.
When should I choose Wispr Flow instead?
Choose Wispr Flow first if you need Windows, Android, enterprise controls, or one cloud-backed voice workflow across many devices.

Method and processing limits

We compared documented capabilities, not speed or accuracy. This page does not report a head-to-head app test or an offline test of a particular build. Source checks and Paraspeech product evidence have separate dates below.

Local rewriting is available only where the direct Mac app and your product access support it. Account access, purchases, analytics, diagnostics, downloads, support and updates may also use the network. Apps receiving your text have their own processing and storage practices.
